ITE Projects handed over a 1500 square metre extension to Iomart’s data centre in Maidenhead.
The UK Home Secretary The Rt Hon Theresa May MP opened the data centre on the 6th June and was given a tour of the facility.
It was her first visit to a data centre, Theresa May said: "Data centres are an important part of the global economy, so I'm delighted to be opening this new facility for Iomart. The technology on show is impressive and will allow businesses to be better connected than ever."
The new data centre took 12 months to complete and with a new mezzanine floor has a 650 rack capacity. It features a completely separate tier 4 dual feed power supply from the incoming mains right through to the individual racks. Each feed is backed up with its own UPS string and generator support.
The data centre is protected with fire detection system to BS5839 with VESDA early warning smoke detection and Pro Inert fire suppression system.
Extensive security has been provided throughout the data centre with card reader access and CCTV.
Parts of the facility benefit from free air cooling, with the data halls utilising energy efficient inverter controlled compressor & EC fan technology reducing air conditioning costs.
